Organizational Consultation & MI Program Development

Various helping organizations across industries recognize the role of Motivational Interviewing (MI) skills in helping their teams and clients. However, we know many organizations may struggle to effectively and sustainably implement the skills and spirit of MI across their team in a meaningful, long-term way. We provide a variety of services to help organizations meet these goals:

  • We partner with you to better understand your organization’s MI learning needs and preferences and design a menu of options for success.

  • We tailor each workshop or training by conducting a pre and post-training evaluation of MI knowledge, application, interest, and preferences with learners.

We have found that our assessment tools are robust and assist us in developing a comprehensive and targeted training experience for our learners. We assist organizations in identifying their staffs skills, wants, needs, and goals in learning and growing MI skills as well as evaluating program outcomes with organization-specific data and reports.

  • We customize each workshop based on a needs assessment and pre-training evaluation of each learner. Our workshops, whether online or in-person, are deeply engaging, interactive, and include opportunities for skills practice and feedback throughout the process. We tailor and adapt the experience based on learners’ feedback and MI competency needs throughout the course.

  • Research suggests that stand alone workshops or trainings do not always equate to long-term application of the new knowledge. We offer opportunities for ongoing consultation, skills coaching, and support throughout the first 6 months of MI application to assist learners in applying and growing the techniques in their day to day work and preventing skills drift.

We think of our competency-based consultation groups as “MI Learning Collaboratives” in which all of us are seeking to grow and share our skills and insights as we practice and apply MI across various helping professions and settings. We also help organizations develop their own internal consultation groups that continue after B&B facilitation.

  • We have found that the more organizations grow their internal resources, and specifically staff who act as “Motivational Interviewing Champions” throughout the organization, that it increases organizational comfort with MI and a shift in culture that is consistent with MI.

We offer a 15-hour, interactive series for skilled Motivational Interviewing practitioners interested in learning approaches to sharing and training others as MI Champions. We facilitate this series through modeling, didactics, exercises, feedback and debriefing conversations and also help new MI champions to prepare their own customized materials for sharing MI with their colleagues and supervisees.
